Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Security (CCIE Security)

The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Security (CCIE Security), one of the rarest honored certifications of the industry, validates the expert’s capability to configure complex end-to-end secure networks, troubleshoot integrated environments and possess strong understanding of common attacks and mitigation techniques. The experts are deployed into the most technical challenging environment and hence must demonstrate in-depth understanding and applicable knowledge in layer 2 and layer 3 infrastructures.


All CCIE Security certified Experts possess the ability to protect networking infrastructures with advanced security means and to enforce the intrusion prevention system in a foolproof manner.


Objectives of CCIE Security

To implement, maintain and support extensive Cisco Network Security Solutions using the latest industry best practices and technologies.


Prerequisites

  • The candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam
  • Candidates are expected to have an in-depth knowledge on the blueprint
  • Candidates are strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting CCIE Security certification

  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco ASA Firewalls
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco IOS Firewalls
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco VPN solutions
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco IPS
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Identity Management
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Advanced Security Features
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Network Attacks

Examination

  • Written Exam 350-018 : The written exam is a two-hour, multiple choice test with 100 questions covering areas such as security protocols, operating systems, application protocols, security technologies, and Cisco security applications.
  • Lab Exam: The CCIE Security lab exam is an eight-hour exam. Each question on the lab has specific criterion and tests your ability to get a secure network running in a timed test situation. The initial attempt of the CCIE lab exam should be made within 18 months of passing the CCIE written exam. The lab exam should be cleared within three years of passing the written exam failing which you must retake the written exam before being allowed to attempt the lab exam again.

Recertification

The CCIE Security certifications are valid for two years. The certificate can be renewed by passing any one of the following exams before the validity expires:


  • Any current CCIE Written Exam OR CCIE Lab Exam or
  • The current CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or
  • The Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications

If the candidates do not pass the qualifying exam, they will be placed in suspended status and their employers will be notified. They will be given one year to pass the required exam after which the CCIE Security certification becomes permanently inactive.
