The Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert Service Provider
(CCIE Service Provider)

The Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert Service Provider (CCIE Service Provider), the most significant certification in the industry, validates expert level skills required of a Network Engineer to configure, build, troubleshoot, and optimize a complex highly available Service Provider IP NGN core infrastructure. The CCIE Service Provider certification indicates expert level knowledge in the fundamentals of IP technologies as well as specialized knowledge in at least one of the networking areas specific to service providers including Dial, DSL, Cable, Optical, Wan switching, IP telephony and content networking.


Candidates preparing for the CCIE Service Provider certification possess thorough knowledge in IP core, aggregation/edge, and remote access technologies, Layer 2 and 3 VPNs, plus managed services traversing an IP core network.


Objectives of CCIE Service Provider

To keep up with large scale maintenance, troubleshooting implementation and support of applications and building extensible service provider infrastructures that deliver managed services.


Prerequisites

  • The candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam
  • Candidates are expected to have an in-depth knowledge on the blueprint
  • Candidates are strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting CCIE Service Provider certification

Examination

Completion of the CCIE Service Provider curriculum requires the candidates to pass the following exams:


  • Written Exam: Exam Number 350-029
    must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam covering concepts and equipment commands related to packet-based networking infrastructure, before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.
  • Lab Exam: The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and get a service provider network running in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months of passing the CCIE written exam.

Recertification

The CCIE Service Provider certifications are valid for two years. The certificate can be renewed by passing any one of the following exams before the validity expires:


  • Any current CCIE Written Exam OR CCIE Lab Exam or
  • The current CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or
  • The Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications

If the candidates do not pass the qualifying exam, they will be placed in suspended status and their employers will be notified. They will be given one year to pass the required exam after which the CCIE certification becomes permanently inactive.
