Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos)

The Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos) is the entry level certification designed especially for networking engineers with beginner-intermediate knowledge of networking. The certification acts as a prerequisite to proceed to the advanced Juniper network certifications. JNCIA-Junos certification validates knowledge and skills in Juniper Networks Junos operating system, networking fundamentals and basic routing essentials.

Introduction to the Junos Operating System (IJOS): This course aims at providing fundamental knowledge required to work with the Junos operating system and to configure Junos devices. It mainly emphasizes on key topics such as Junos device families, key architectural components of the software, user interface options with a heavy focus on the command-line interface (CLI), configuration tasks typically associated with the initial setup of devices, interface configuration basics with configuration examples, secondary system configuration, and the basics of operational monitoring and maintenance of Junos devices.

Networking fundamentals: Networking fundamentals course describes how networks work as well as the technologies that make networks possible. This course is best suited for anyone new to networking and enthusiastic to learn the basics, as well as to brush up on basics. It covers concepts like:

  • What is a network?
    • Network models
    • How data flows from one computer to another
    • Network addressing
  • Ethernet LANs
    • How Ethernet networks operate
    • Early Ethernet network devices, including hubs and bridges
    • Today’s Ethernet network devices, including switches and Virtual LANs (VLANs)
  • Routing basics
    • Layer 2 and 3 addressing
    • Interconnecting different broadcast domains using routers
    • Address resolution
    • How data is sent from one broadcast domain or network to another
  • IP addressing
    • Internet Protocol (IP)
    • IP addressing
    • Network masks
    • Working with binary numbers
    • Subnetting
    • Routing data through a network using longest match routing
  • WAN technologies
    • Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)
    • Frame Relay
    • Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM)
    • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
  • Transport Layer protocols
    • User Datagram Protocol (UDP)
    • Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

Junos Routing Essentials (JRE): Having a basic knowledge on networking, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model and the TCP/IP protocol suite acts as a prerequisite to attend this course. This course provides students with theoretical and hands-on knowledge in foundational routing knowledge and configuration examples and includes an overview of general routing concepts, routing policy and firewall filters, and class of service (CoS). One should make it a point to take up Introduction to the Junos Operating System (IJOS) course prior to this.
